Inspired by our childhood memories of visiting Chinese temples and the tradition of Kau Chim, this project brings to life a practice that was meaningful to us growing up.
An interactive experience where visitors place offerings on the altar and draw their personalized fortune- combining culture, excitement, and storytelling.

The user sits on a chair, triggering a hidden sensor that awakens the experience.
Placing an offering onto the shrine summons an animated dragon, which declares, "I will now reveal your fortune."
The shrine responds, projecting a guiding light onto one of sixteen cabinets.
An ominous, mysterious voice fills the space, instructing the user to select an offering.
Drawn to the illuminated cabinet, the user opens it and retrieves their personalized fortune.
The experience begins as the user sits on a chair, activating a hidden sensor. An otherworldly voice invites them to select one of five symbolic food offerings. Choosing the offering summons an animated dragon which guides users to a cabinet– one of which lights up, prompting users to retrieve their fortune. Each visitor leaves with a physical keepsake as a scroll.
Presented to hundreds of visitors at NYU—inviting them to a mystical journey where ancient traditions and modern technology reveal their destiny.
